On Wednesday, March 21st our grades 3-6 choir will be participating in Choral Celebration. This is an event for all Parkland School Division choirs. It will be held at the Oasis Centre in Edmonton at 10:00am. Good luck, Choir!
On Monday, March 19th at 1:00pm we will be holding a musical showcase in the gym. This will be a musical concert with performances by the grades 3-6 choir, the grade 6 handbell club, and a grade 4-5 recorder ensemble. Parents are invited to come and support our student musicians!
Wondering what’s going on with music at Forest Green? Here’s a quick look at our music program!
Grade 1 is working with instruments, especially from the percussion family. We are also learning about opposites like loud/soft, high/low, and fast/slow.
Grade 2 is learning about phrases through singing, movement, and playing instruments. We are even writing our own music in aaba phrase form!
Grade 3 is studying the instruments of the orchestra. Ask us about Mrs. Olson’s tuba, or our huge percussion circle!
Grade 4A and 4/5B are starting to play recorders. Some of us are beginners and some of us are returning players, but we are all very good at playing Hot Cross Buns by now!
Grade 5A is starting to play handbells. We might even start up a grade 5 handbell club this year.
Grade 6 is researching different musical genres. When we’re listening to hip hop music and we say it’s for homework, we’re telling the truth!
The Grades 3-6 Choir is rehearing on DAY 2. We will be performing at Choral Celebration this spring.
The Grade 6 Handbell Club is rehearsing on DAY 4. Keep an eye out for some fun performances, coming soon!
The grade 4-6 students are having a special musical presentation on February 1st at 1:00pm. They have been learning about Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” to prepare for this.
As always, we like to focus on the six key skills in music class: singing, playing instruments, reading & writing, moving, listening, and creating.
The grade 3-6 choir and the grade 6 handbell clubs are getting a fresh start this month. We have a large and enthusiastic choir and we are looking forward to several performances coming up, including Choral Celebration. The choir meets at lunch recess on DAY 2. We have a very talented group of grade 6 students preparing to show off what the handbells can do. The handbell club meets at noon on DAY 4. It’s great to see so many students excited about making music!

The Grade Six Handbell Club has begun! For those of you in the club: please remember that rehearsals are on DAY 4, and to bring your lunch. For the rest of Forest Green: we hope you look forward to our performances at upcoming events!
Thanks to all those who showed an interest in joining choir! We had about 35 students in grades 3-6 come in for choir, and more are welcome to join. The first choir rehearsal will be Thursday, Sept. 29 at lunch recess, and then rehearsals will continue on DAY 2. Sing Sing Sing!
